Have your Say - fill in our new Alperton Residents Survey
Brent Labour have built many new large tower blocks in Alperton - with still more to come.
It is right that the council are building new homes - the country, and especially London, desperately need them. But there are two important factors that Lib Dems will always champion:
1. They need to be affordable for local people, and for young people especially. 35% affordable housing is the bare minimum required by London policy and the latest developments signed off in Alperton in barely get over the line. There's no where near enough social homes being built either. Brent council needs to be more ambitious.
2. When an area like Alperton gets many new tower blocks in small area it creates a large influx of people - and the area needs investment to cater for the new residents - in roads, parking, GPs, schools and more.
Developers have paid levies on Alpertons tower blocks totalling £25 million but barely any of that has actually been spent in Alperton. This is why we are launching our new survey: to give new and existing residents a chance to tell us what you think the areas needs most, and we aim to challenge the Labour council to unlock some of the £25m to deliver what Alperton wants.
